ASEAN

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand. 

ASEAN consists of 10 Member States namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

With a population of over 600 million people, ASEAN has a market size of approximately USD 2.3 trillion. Youth comprises approximately a third of the combined population of ASEAN. The youth population of the region is projected to peak at over 220 million by 2038.

ASEAN Member States are committed to the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 — an integrated, peaceful and stable community with shared prosperity, announced in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 22 November 2015.

ASEAN Committee in The Hague

Established in October 2015, the ASEAN Committee in The Hague (ACTH) consists of Ambassadors accredited to the Netherlands and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), with residence in the Netherlands. They are the Ambassadors of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

The ACTH works closely with Ambassadors from the remaining ASEAN Member States accredited to the Netherlands and the OPCW, with residence in Brussels, Belgium. 

The ACTH aims to promote ASEAN’s interests and identity in the Netherlands and the OPCW in line with the ASEAN Community Vision 2025.

The ACTH Chairmanship is rotated among ACTH members every 6 months. Viet Nam presided over the first ACTH chairmanship in 2015. The current ACTH Chairman is the Ambassador of the Malaysia (19 January 2023 to June 2023).
